SmartOpinion was formed in 2003 by Managing Director Murray Baker. Baker founded the consultancy based on his own success in building a business from nothing to a turnover of $20 million in less than ten years. After successfully selling the business, he realised that many of the most important lessons were learned the hard way. If only there had been someone to fast track through the hard times.

It is this philosophy born out of actually doing the 'hard yards' that lies at the heart of the SmartOpinion philosophy.

Murray Baker, Managing Director, SmartOpinion

Successful business entrepreneur, Murray Baker specialises in mentoring and advising business owners of small to medium businesses. His strengths include financial management, business efficiency, growing businesses and an experienced understanding of the 'bottom line'.

A former computer hardware engineer, Murray invested $5,000 in 1987 to form his first company specialising in IT networking. In 1990 he re-formed the company, gave it a new name, allNET Technologies and began importing and distributing computer cabling products - the physical layer of the network industry which includes copper and fibre optics. Ten years on in 2000, after building the business to over 30 specialists and a turnover of $20 million, Baker sold it to US multinational Anixter Inc.

Baker is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and lives with his wife and two children in Sydney.
